June 27, 2006 13 months after releasing The Woods on Sub Pop Records, Sleater-Kinney announce their “indefinite hiatus,” asserting that there are no plans for “future tours or recordings.” Aging riot grrls around the world pour one out.
August 12, 2006 Sleater-Kinney play a two-hour, 27-song set at their farewell show at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland. Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder joins the band onstage briefly, offering a loving eulogy. “You know how you wish you could have seen the Beatles or Jimi Hendrix or the Who with Keith Moon? Well, I am very fortunate and extremely grateful to live in a time when I can see Sleater-Kinney live.”
October 2, 2006 S-K drummer Janet Weiss joins the Jicks, solo project of former Pavement leader (and fellow Portland resident) Stephen Malkmus.
September 8, 2007 Corin Tucker collaborates with Vedder on the Into the Wild soundtrack, contributing her vocals to the track “Hard Sun.”
November 2007 S-K co-frontwoman Carrie Brownstein begins writing Monitor Mix, a sporadically updated blog for NPR.org. “My hopes for Monitor Mix are that it will be descriptive as opposed to merely prescriptive,” she writes in her inaugural post. “I would rather discuss and examine what it is that people actually consume than to tell you what you should be listening to.”
November 21, 2008 Brownstein tells Pitchfork.com not to hold its breath for an S-K reunion, especially not if that particular word is involved. “I don’t think we’re ruling it out, but it’s not going to be anytime soon. We probably wouldn’t use the word ‘reunion’ [laughs]. We would say that the hiatus is off . . . ‘”
April 7, 2010 Kill Rock Stars breaks the news that they will release Tucker’s first solo album under the apt name “The Corin Tucker Band.”
September 22, 2010 Brownstein announces via NPR’s All Songs Considered blog that she and Weiss have formed Wild Flag, a new band that includes former Helium leader Mary Timony and Minders bassist Rebecca Cole. The band signs with Merge Records and plans to release a record in 2011. A Seattle show is scheduled for November 12 at the 230-capacity High Dive in Fremont.
September 23, 2010 On the possibility of a Sleater-Kinney reunion, Tucker tells SW “We’re all still friends and we have talked about doing Sleater-Kinney in the future again,” she says. “I’m hopeful that that will happen.”
October 8, 2010 The Corin Tucker Band make their Seattle debut at Showbox at the Market.
