A sold out Benaroya Hall welcomed Seattle’s very own Ann and Nancy Wilson Thursday night for a one-off Heart show. Promoted as the Heart and Friends Holiday Show, the performance was recorded for a television special scheduled to air on AXS TV on December 25.
The sisters pulled out the stops, inviting a couple of cast members from the 5th Avenue theater production of Oliver! to dance around on stage and in the crowd. Throughout the evening the band was joined on stage by Shawn Colvin, ‘90s pop ballad master Richard Marx, the Red Rocker Sammy Hagar, and Train’s Pat Monahan, all of whom performed several holiday songs. It wasn’t all music; before a mid-show break Nancy Wilson read aloud a poem that she teased as a potential song in the works.
After a brief intermission, the members of Heart returned to the stage and performed a selection of their classic hits including “Barracuda,” “Crazy on You,” and “Even It Up,” as well as crowd-pleasing cover versions of Led Zeppelin’s “Rain Song” and “Stairway to Heaven.” During Stairway, they were accompanied by the Total Experience Gospel Choir, just as they were during their performances at the Kennedy Center Honors last year and the groups recent Heartbreaker tour, which came through Seattle during Bumbershoot this past September.
