3/4 of The Lonely Forest, who headline Anacortes’ Catapult FestJust jumping in to give you a heads up about two local festivals’ lineup news. First up is Noise for the Needy, the yearly festival that benefits people in need. This year’s edition runs June 1-10 at venues around town and benefits Seattle Community Law Center, which serves low-income people with disabilities. British rockers The Duke Spirit will headline (they’re playing June 7th at Neumos), and other out-of-town acts include The Thermals, David J of Bauhaus and Love and Rockets, and Rounder Records artist JD McPherson. The local talent, which comprises the majority of the bill and makes it all the more stronger for it, runs from experimental rock to country and includes Nazca Lines, Eighteen Individual Eyes, and Blood Orange Paradise at Barboza, Side Saddle, The Outlaws, Shane Tutmarc, and Country Lips at Columbia City Theater, and Hounds of the Wild Hunt, Hobosexual, and The Grizzled Mighty at the Comet. The full lineup and schedule can be found at NFTN’s website.Read on for details of Anacortes’ charming Catapult fest.Later in the month, Catapult Fest brings a passel of outstanding Northwest bands to Anacortes on June 22 and 23— and best of all, it’s free on Saturday. Friday’s lineup of The Lonely Forest, Cumulus, and Special Explosion, who won the wildcard in this year’s Sound Off! and were hand-picked to perform by TLF, is well worth the drive north. But Saturday’s free festivities are even more irresistible, with Nude (2012 Sound Off! winner), Kithkin, BellaMaine, Candysound, The Hague, Feet, Whitney Ballen and the Intimates, Us On Roofs, and The Deep Wake all playing for free at Seafarer’s Park, the location for the fest. Hopefully the weather will decide to perk up earlier than its usual post-July 4th malingering. Oh, and if you wonder why you’ve never heard about Catapult before, they ran for the past 12 years under the name Bumberpalooza, but decided to get a fresh start in 2012.
