Welcome to Spring! What does it mean? Well, unfortunately it means more rain. But who cares? We’ve all chosen to live here and knew what we were getting into so suck it up. Perhaps you can brighten this first day of Spring with a trip to the venerable Pie Bar which has now opened its second location in Ballard at 2218 NW Market St. There you’ll find a series of pies which rotate on the menu weekly including Strawberry Rhubarb, Sour Cherry and something called ‘Razzle Blue’. They also have a full cocktail bar where you can sip on Apple Pie Moscow Mule’s and dream about all the pie that will be in your belly soon. But wait, there’s more…they even have savory pies. So shut up and make me a chicken pot pie!

There’s a new Chef at Canlis (from Brooklyn!) but you can read all about that somewhere else if you haven’t already been hit over the head with the news…

Now here’s an opportunity to use one of your local car share services – McCarthy and Schiering is hosting a wine tasting featuring 70 wines from importer Neal Rosenthal’s portfolio. The event will be held at Within Sodo on Monday, March 30th (why on a Monday? Why?!) and will feature French and Italian wines from over 30 wineries. The event is an affordable $24.95 and reservations are required. Bonus points to those of you who can send in proof that you tasted all 70!

Staying on the meat tip – Miller’s Guild will be starting up their Sunday Dinner series on March 29th with a smorgasbord of meaty options. ‘Butcher Block Sundays’ will feature three options for protein lovers including prime rib, a rotating meat dish such as grilled pork chops, lamb chops or duck, and a seafood option for the meat weary. Sides will be abundant and here’s one of the best parts – two wines will be featured each evening basically at cost. So you’ll have plenty of options for around $25-50/bottle.
