The predicted end of the world came and went on December 21st, 2012 with little noise. People were left with useless signage predicting doom and Seattle gained Agrodolce on the very same day. And so we celebrate the absence of asteroids slamming into our planet and rejoice in the fact that we can go to Maria Hines’ Italian eatery for $2 appetizers all day on December 21st. Head in for mini lamb burgers, arancini, and caponata while washing it all down with Campari and soda.

Denizens of Murphy’s Pub in Wallingford are now aimlessly wandering the streets looking for an alternative watering hole now that the longtime fixture has closed. Have no fear though as new owner Paddy O’Brien has swept in to save the day by purchasing the space recently. Which is good news as Murphy’s will be revived in about 3-4 weeks as the Wallyhood blog reports in this story. The new pub will be more of a traditional Irish spot featuring more music in the future. Who knows, will local resident Dave Matthews pop in for an open mike night? Wait and see…

Those in Ballard yearning for more weekend lunch options will be happy to learn that Kevin Chung’s 8oz Burger Bar has now opened on weekends for midday service. Pop in and try out their new monthly feature – the Nikki Farms kangaroo patty, rhubarb marmalade, wilted spinach, smoked onions, brie and horseradish creme fraiche. Why not?

And as if Tom Douglas didn’t have enough restaurants already – another can now be added to the roster with Serious Pie opening its Capitol Hill outlet at Pike and Melrose next to the brand spankin’ new Starbucks Roastery/Cafe/Tasting Room. The 90 seat space will serve the standard menu established at other locations and also includes a full bar and a massive wood fired oven.
