Makini Howell of vegan restaurant Plum, and its offshoot vegan burger truck, has now set her sights on a vegan ice creamery and sweet shop. To raise money, she’s not turning to trendy Kickstarter but instead is asking folks to contribute via Community Sourced Capital, “a sustainable financing system designed to strengthen communities” acccording to the press release. People buy $50 “squares” to fund a larger loan, which they say will be fully repaid as the business grows. For more info, click here.

On October 6th and 7th The Pine Box on Capitol Hill will feature a selection of nearly 40 different fresh hopbeers. Beer drinkers will be given a treat on the 7th where the bar will use 12 Randall taps to infuse varieties of fresh hops into the same beer for taste comparison.

Discover Wine in South Lake Union on October 8th at the South Lake Union Discovery Center in this benefit for Northwest Harvest. 10 Woodinville wineries will be featured including Col Solare, Robert Ramsay and Lauren Ashton Cellars. For a $25 donation, winers and diners get a passport to try all the wines with some light snacks to boot.

The beloved Egyptian Theater reopens this weekend after extensive renovation. On Monday October 6th a screening of the salmon expose The Breach. Watch a film about salmon and then eat them in a dinner by Tom Douglas. Doors open at 6 pm with a requested donation of $25 benefitting SIFF and to support the fight to Save Bristol Bay.
