Someone once told me that tequila is not mezcal and mezcal is not tequila. But since I don’t like either I can’t really tell you the difference. But, if you are interested in learning there is hope! On Friday, April 10 at 4p.m., Mezcaleria Oaxaca on Capitol Hill will be offering a mezcal class and tasting of the artisanal mezcals of Mezcales de Leyenda. Danny Mena, co-owner of Mezcales de Leyenda and chef of New York City restaurant Hecho en Dumbo, will lead the class and tasting. $25 gets you a taste of the full line of mezcales as well as regional Oaxacan snack pairings. To reserve a space, please email mezcaleriaoaxaca@gmail.com.

There’s still time to book your obligatory Easter Brunch and brave the crowds of hungry breakfast goers. One option is Sazerac next to the Hotel Monaco. Chef Jason McClure is pulling out all the stops with dishes such as Asparagus, Peppercorn Bacon, Roasted Tomato & Aged Cheddar Omelette, Shigoku Oysters on the Half Shell and Braised Lamb Shanks. This is not any ordinary brunch. And if you need to take the edge off after seeing all those relatives you can indulge in the special Easter cocktail aptly named ‘Chicks Night Out’ made with reposado tequila, aperol, rose water and OJ. Hell, have three.

And the Capitol Hill Seattle Blog reports that Lost Lake/Comet/Big Mario’s owner and $15/hr minimum wage proponent Dave Meinert and team are the lucky winners of the bidding process to take over the former Kingfish Cafe space on 19th Ave and Mercer. The report states that plans are in the works to open the cafe as a family-style Italian joint with a full cocktail bar to boot. June 2015 is the target opening date of the yet unnamed space.
