It’s that time of year where if you own a restaurant that’s remotely French, or if you even have a French person working there, then you must capitalize on the marketing opportunity that is Beaujolais Nouveau. It’s that third Thursday in November where Beaujolais makers release mostly cheap plonk and for some reason it makes everyone giddy. Seattle is no exception to this cultural phenomenon and Bastille Cafe & Bar in Ballard will be hosting lovers of this vibrant fruity young wine on Thursday, November 20th. Fortunately, you’ll be in the good hands of Wine Director James Lechner and Somm Kristen Young who will guide you through both the ‘Nouveau’ releases as well as Cru’s from ten villages in the northern part of the Beaujolais region. For $3/taste, $6/glass or $20/carafe you are a short ways away from a fun night and an Uber ride home. Vive la France!

Chera Amalag, co-founder of the oft talked about Food and Sh*t pop-up has combined pastry and technology by launching the e-commerce based Hood Famous Bakeshop featuring Filipino specialty pastries and desserts. Beginning today, her Ube Cheesecake will be featured at all three Uwajimaya locations for hungry eaters to sample. For those of you who don’t know what ube is (I didn’t) – it’s a native Filipino sweet yam that is purple in color. Now who doesn’t want to eat a purple cake?

In news of the weird – Egg Freezing Parties for women in Technology are becoming a ‘thing’ in the Silicon Valley. In Wendy Lee’s latest story on SFGATE she profiles the latest fad for women in technology that are too busy working on the next great startup to start their own families. Get this – a fertility expert (and self-proclaimed egg whisperer) is hosting events where she talks women through the egg freezing procedures over wine and appetizers. And apparently high tech companies are jumping on the bandwagon. Both Facebook and Apple are, or will be, providing benefits that will cover egg freezing and storage for young women. Who says capitalism is dead?
