1. Tom Douglas is at it again. Seattle Met is reporting that Douglas has signed a lease for a space in the Martin Apartments at Fifth and Lenora and plans to open a Mexican cantina and bar serving fresh corn tortillas. Douglas has not yet announced an open date.

2. Cone & Steiner General has started hosting “casual Friday beer tastings,” held from 5 to 8 p.m. each Friday. And tomorrow, from 1 to 5 p.m., Eric Stone of Vinea Imports will be on hand to pour wines from the Jane Ventura winery in Spain, paired with Spanish charcuterie.

3. Capitol Hill Seattle is reporting about a “suggested gratuity” snafu at Von Trapp’s over the Memorial Day weekend. A reader sent in a photo of a receipt with grossly miscalculated suggested gratuity amounts printed at the bottom; Von Trapp’s says the mistake was an honest one.

4. You’ve probably never considered the science behind that beautiful smell of bacon cooking. Just in case you were curious, American Chemical Society and the Compound Interest blog have created an informative video on the topic.
