Fremont Brewing will undergo a massive expansion that involves moving to an 80,000-square foot space in Ballard (which should be ready by next fall) and hiring an additional 35 to 40 full time employees. The brewery will keep its current Fremont space as “an experimental brewery.” The Fremont space is currently being renovated to expand with 20 tap lines and a fireplace; that project is set for completion in September. 2. Fresh Bistro is hosting a Hawaiian-themed pig roast on August 30 at 6:30 p.m. The event includes a slow-roasted pig brined with Aloha Shoyu and brown sugar and rubbed with Chinese double black soy sauce, plus sides like Spam fried rice, tropical fruit salad, heirloom tomato poke, sweet potato puree, Hawaiian macaroni salad, and Hawaiian-style sauteed cabbage. Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant is hosting a day-long celebration in honor of its recent Washington Beer Award, its remodel, and the brewery’s 15-year anniversary. The downtown microbrewery will sell canned beer for 98 cents and is offering $4 growler fills all day tomorrow. The event includes live music and happy hour discounts from 3 to 6:30 p.m. 4. A fancy Philadelphia restaurant called Volver now serves a portable phone charging station on a silver platter between the sardine and scallop course. Guests are also warned that taking flash photographs of their meals are a faux pas.
