1. If backers keep up the good work via Kickstarter, it looks Brendan McGill’s forthcoming German-inspired spot Altstadt will have no trouble purchasing, “a brand-new powerful 2 horsepower meat grinder, specialized sinks and tables for whole hog butchery, as well as higher-capacity refrigeration.” The Pioneer Square eatery is aiming for a November 1 opening. McGill will also launch sandwich shop Hitchcock Deli Georgetown (adding to Hitchcock and Hitchcock Deli on Bainbridge Island) by spring of 2013. Eater has details.

2. You’ll no longer be able to eat the best coconut cake in the world after October 31. In sadder than sad news, Capitol Hill’s North Hill Bakery is shuttering. Owner Margaret Rumpeltes posted via Facebook, “Good Bye North Hill! Landlord kicked us out. We have loved serving the Capitol Hill neighborhood, you have all made work a kick to come to every day. Please drop in to say good bye and reminisce. Love, Margaret and the NHB staff.” CHS reports on the closure and the space that has housed bakeries for almost eight decades.
