When one thinks of Australian beer, one typically thinks of Foster’s Lager

When one thinks of Australian beer, one typically thinks of Foster’s Lager in a blue oil can. But the Aussies’ finest brew may well be Sheaf Stout, served only in brown, 25-oz. bottles and available virtually nowhere in Seattle. Occasionally you’ll find a bottle or two of the uncompromising beverage – Guinness goes down like Coors Light by comparison — collecting dust at your local independent grocer or specialty beer mart. But I hadn’t been able to locate Sheaf Stout behind the bar until I visited the Bohemian, which sits on what has suddenly become a hot California Avenue block, what with the recent opening of Prost’s westside satellite. For this alone, I will return, although it’s but one of many outstanding reasons to sidle up to the Bohemian’s bar.
