What used to be Susan’s 5100 Bistro is now a restaurant with a heck of a lot more spice. Carlos Kainz and his wife Julie Guerrero, the duo behind Dulces Latin Bistro, recently took over the spot near the Seward Park PCC and re-opened it as Saffron.”The menu is a modest version of the Dulces menu,” Kainz told me, while getting ready for Saffron’s inaugural dinner service tomorrow night. Guerrero, who’s the executive chef at Dulces, is also Saffron’s main pot slinger. She created a menu that consists of dishes like white Mexican prawns sauteed in butter with orange-saffron sauce; grilled New Zealand lamb brochettes with Argentinean chimichurri, cipollini onions and bell peppers; and pork shoulder carnitas with adobo sauce.Right now, Saffron is open for breakfast/lunch/dinner seven days a week, but Kainz told me they might decide to eventually scale back.Saffron5100 S.
