Vino Verite’s (208 Boylston Ave. E.) weekly tasting features BBQ wines for the holiday weekend, all $10 per bottle or less. The wines range from New Zealand and Oregon whites to Spanish rose and Argentinian and South African reds. South African reds do a grill good, I must say (especially the $8 shiraz they’ll be tasting). I asked Dave Egan of Vino Verite what constitutes a good BBQ wine. He said, “It’s a wine that’s great to drink a lot of on a hot day and goes great with a bunch of different food, especially off the grill. It should also be something most people will like.” In other words, keep it simple. (Thursday, July 2nd, 6:00-8:00PM, free)With proper planning, you can also try the BBQ wine selection at Esquin (2700 Fourth Ave. S.). For the record, it bugs me that whenever I call Esquin never seems to know what they’ll be serving. I’m all for surprises, but geez, how bout a little marketing?(Thursday, July 2nd, 5:00-6:30pm, free) You could easily hit Seattle Cellars (2505 2nd Ave.) in Belltown before heading up the hill. They keep mostly to whites this week, including some favorites I’ve had around town recently–the “Les Plantagenets” Saumur to name one. They’re also pouring a killer Moscato d’Asti which, for those of you who’ve never, tastes like lemon cream and is slightly sweet and sparkling. (Thursday, July 2nd, 5:00-7:00pm, free with purchase of $10 Riedel tasting glass)
