This Saturday, June 13, author Joyce Lebra will read from her novel The Scent of Sake (Avon) at Sake Nomi in Pioneer Square. The book features a female protagonist fighting to take control of her family’s sake business, with tradition and duty set against her. Set in Japan in the 1800s, the story in the novel is developed from actual events. Lebra is a historian of both Japanese and Indian culture. This is her first work of fiction, and sure as shit will be a movie. For Saturday’s reading and signing, Sake Nomi will hold a tasting of sake brewed by a female toji out of Iwate prefecture. The reading begins at 2:00pm.
