This is something I had at a not-to-be-mentioned speakeasy in Chicago. The original drink came off like a supped up manhattan: bourbon with Cynar instead of sweet vermouth, cherry bitters and maraschino liqueur, all topped homemade ginger ale. Add an intense cherry flavor and slight spicy bubble to your average manhattan for an idea of what this tastes like. I adore boozy and or sour cherry flavors AND bubbly floats with my drinks, but the list of ingredients is a little precious. I got close to the original flavor by using ingredients you’d already have at home if you liked manhattans: 1 1/2 ounce bourbon, 1/2 ounce sweet vermouth*, your normal dose of bitters-doubled, and a healthy splash of Reed’s Cherry Ginger Brew. (*Substitute a brown Italian amaro if you’re inclined.
