This is Brandon and Jamie, and they man the coffee bar at the just opened Hudson in SODO (5000 E. Marginal Way S., 767-4777), just a few blocks south of where 99 turns from highway to street. The location will surely kill with the people who work in the area, as coffee and lunch options leave one wanting. The space is sleek and super comfy at the same time, with a little espresso bar in the corner, a U-shaped bar dominating the middle of the room, and windows along three sides. The menu is as no nonsense as its big sis, Smarty Pants, but has a decidedly southern feel to it–po’ boys for lunch and shrimp and grits for breakfast, and happy hour includes $1 Miller Highlife and $3.50 wells. HOURS: Monday through Friday Hudson opens for coffee and pastries (Caffe Umbria and Macrina) at 6:00am. Breakfast starts at 7:00am and rolls until 11:00am, lunch runs from 11:00am to 3:00pm, and dinner from 5:00pm to 10:00pm. Saturday and Sunday brunch start at 8:00am and go until 3:00pm, and I have just four words about weekend brunch: Deep. Fried. French. Toast.
