There’s a professional vibe at Kristos EastlakeThe Place: Kristos Eastlake, 3218 Eastlake Ave. E, 588-8885, EASTLAKE The Hours: All day Sunday, Mon-Sat 3-6:30 p.m. and 10 p.m.-close. The Deal: For anyone tired of the typical happy hour fare that consists of buffalo wings and mozzarella sticks, Kristos adds a little Mediterranean twist to its menu items. Grilled chicken and lamb gyros go for $6 minus a side of fries or salad–a perfect portion size figuring you’ll want to save some room in order to indulge in some discounted drinks ($3 domestic drafts, $3.75 imported drafts, $4 wells and $5 house wine). Adventurous diners should try out the Kristos burger (also $6) consisting of crisp bacon, shaved red onion, romaine lettuce, and tomato resting atop 1/3 lb of beef oozing with Kristos ketchup, harrissa aioli sauce and cheddar cheese. For share-happy eaters (as we all know splitting a burger in fourths can be challenging), there are a half-dozen 7-inch gourmet pizzas to choose from for just seven bucks each. The Digs: While the surroundings are neither tranquil nor scenic (cars whizz across the I-5 bridge from above, and congested traffic merges onto the University bridge nearly 100-yards away), Kristos offers a soundproof oasis past its grocery-store-like sliding doors. A bit on the classy side, the establishment comes fully equipped with high end finishes such as blown glass sculptures on the walls and two HD flat screen televisions–not to mention that there’s even a loft space offering plenty of room for future parties and a DJ. Just shy of being open for two years, Kristos seems to attract a large majority of nearby condo dwellers in need of an after work drink or snack before turning in for the night. The Verdict: A great spot for groups of friends rather than a first-date hangout (Kristos’ high ceiling causes intimate conversations to travel far) offering plenty of room to mingle–it’s just a matter of time before Kristos may become just as congested inside as it is outside its doors. Not to mention, with hardly any other bars stumbling distance away, Kristos keeps its patrons in one spot, allowing for everyone to take advantage of its happy hour twice in one day.
