The winner of the 3rd Annual Seattle Weekly Home Brew Competition was announced on Saturday at Brouwer’s Cafe in Fremont. Jim Tanguay won Best in Show, ahead of 55 entries with his Foreign Extra Stout. Judges for the competition, who picked the winning beer at the end of August, enjoyed this robust beer for its balanced malty sweetness and nutty finish. Entries were divided into categories for IPA, Wheat, Stout, Porter, and ‘Other,’ as dictated by the BJCP style guidelines. Judges included reps from Seattle Beer Coalition, BJCP-sanctioned judges, Seattle Weekly editorial staffers, and Alejandro of Big Al’s Brewing.Big Al’s brewed the winning beer, which will be served at Brouwers and Pagliacci Pizza for one month, or until the beer runs out.
