The Great Nabob barely announces itself on one of Lower Queen Anne’s highest-density food and drink corners. It might take you four trips to the Caffe Vita next door before you even notice it. A long bar with brick and warm lighting, The Nabob has a cellar-like atmosphere for escaping the Bumbershoot crowd, a casual air complete with pool table and board games. The food consists of mainly panini sandwiches, a quesadilla, and (inexplicably) edamame. Be sure to check out what the bartenders can do with 44 Degrees North Huckleberry vodka, but the ace oasis here is the Basil Collins, a regular Tom Collins (gin, lime, sugar, and soda water) with muddled basil.(The Great Nabob, 819 5th Ave. N., open daily 5:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.)Bonus: Check out The Nabob crew’s new joint, The Leary Traveler (4354 Leary Way) between Ballard and Fremont.
