Seattle Fish Company

Mutual Fish Company may be the go-to granddaddy of Seattle fish markets, but as more and more quality neighborhood fishmongers pop up, those of us not convenient to Rainier Avenue South no longer have to make the trip. In West Seattle, Seattle Fish Company has a prime spot on California Avenue, and it must have some pretty prime spots out on the open sea, too: The company’s fish and shellfish are impeccable. But it’s the crab cakes that we’re really over the moon about. Huge, oversized hockey pucks of Dungeness crab—with just a tad bit of mayo and breadcrumbs for binding, and trace amounts of green onion, garlic, and red pepper for extra zing, these babies are take-and-bake ready. Each patty is a little less than half a pound; they average about seven bucks each. Brown them up at home and add a bun or salad worthy of this amazing ocean harvest, and you have before you one of the best meals you’ve ever made—even though you hardly had to do a thing.
