Becky Marsh of Ballard writes:
I read your article about Sam Adams Chocolate Bock beer. Do you know any place in Seattle that is selling it?
Dr. Food responds:
Ms. Marsh has obviously been doing some research, because we published our review of the product in question last Valentine’s Day. Unfortunately, the Sam Adams distributor in this area, Alaska Distributing, isn’t stocking Chocolate Bock this season. After consulting with our invaluable beer sources, we can suggest two alternatives for those in Marsh’s situation. If the “bock” aspect is uppermost in interest— traditionally, bock beers are well-aged, highly malted (and, hence, highly alcoholic) beers—then Elysian Brewing’s Pandora’s Bock, made right here on Capitol Hill, might hit the spot. If chocolate’s the key element, look out for Young’s Double Chocolate Stout from the U.K. Ms. Marsh can find it near her home in Ballard at Wallingford’s Bottleworks.
