Our tribute to the holiday services provided by Seattle’s Best Dive Bars continues with The Knarr Shipwreck Tavern (5633 University Way N.E., open at 2:00pm daily) – Named after a non-pillaging style of Viking ship, the Knarr has very little by way of theme decor on the inside. Serious pool sharks may hog the tables, but the atmosphere lacks that pool hall hush, due mostly to the heavy on the classics jukebox and raucous behavior resulting from cheap pitchers of Pabst. The Knarr does have free shuffleboard, a rarity in this town, AND darts, another endangered bar past time. The crowd can range from rough and tumble to pookahed and douchy, but the former usually keeps the later on their best bad behavior.
