The most Irish things at this Ballard bar may be the Guinness mirror on the wall and the Pogues song blasting from the speaker above your table, but authenticity can take a backseat when $3 wells and microbrews (excluding imports) and $4 appetizers are on offer daily from 4 to 6 p.m. and 10 to midnight. On a recent visit, our server was on the blasé side, our spinach-and-artichoke dip soupy, and our roasted-garlic hummus undersalted—but the fish ‘n’ chips were great (three firm filets with crisp, sturdy fries and a deliciously dilly tartar sauce). Though hardly evocative of the Emerald Isle, “Irish nachos” (regular nacho fixin’s on sliced potatoes) might be worth a try, too. (Other options are typical pub grub: hot wings, chicken strips, etc.) The Pequliar also boasts that wonder of modern barroom wonders: a digital jukebox. Scroll through the alphabet to find your favorite band, pop in a dollar for two plays, and go to it. You can even make your selections play next with a bit more cash. 722 N.W. Market St., 206-782-8886. BALLARD
