No photos should ever be posted of the interior of the Copper Gate. It should be a surprise for everyone on the first visit (hint: it involves ladies). Happy hour means excellent bar food at $2 off and a selection of $5 cocktails. The bar serves Swedish meatballs, gravlax and pumpernickel, beet and pear salad — all solid food inspired by the Danes and Swedes. Their eppelcider cocktail, made with brandy and Gamel Dansk, pairs mightily with it all. Make sure you have a nip of the Heldig’s Own Akvavit, spicy hot and spicy sweet. The Copper Gate6301 24th Ave. N.W., open daily at 5:00 p.m., happy hour daily 5:00-7:00 p.m.
