Haven’t visited any of the exceptional farmers markets in Seattle this summer? The Columbia City market does business on Wednesdays, Lake City’s market is open on Thursdays, the University District and Magnolia markets are open on Saturdays, and the West Seattle, Ballard, and Fremont markets sell on Sundays. Mid-July is an especially good time to drop by the nearest market, because sweet, ripe nectarines are hitting the stands, not to mention impressive blueberries that just seem to keep getting larger, strawberries hanging on for a longer-than-usual season, and the new purple cauliflower that, though prettier than its pale counterpart, still has the same distinctive flavor. And don’t neglect the fresh herbs available at most markets: No dish is complete without the right blend of these indispensable ingredients.
