Lunch Box

Gourmondo Smoked salmon, grilled lamb with tzatziki, and blackened chicken aren’t the sandwiches I remember my mother packing in my lunch box. Perhaps that’s the point. At $9.95 apiece, Gourmondo’s panini, salad, and specialty box lunches are not just gourmet—they’re a good deal. The “Seattle special” sandwich is delicious: smoked salmon on a baguette with cucumbers, red onions, and generous amounts of cream cheese. The salmon is tender, the whipped cream cheese is light, and the mixed green side salad with balsamic vinaigrette is ample. Another hit is the Mediterranean chicken salad with roasted chicken breast, feta, fresh tomatoes, and yellow peppers. The curried lamb in the gyro can be a little on the tough side, but it is flavorful and served with soft feta, tzatziki (which could be a little tangier), and various vegetables. Pretty, delicious little linzertorte cookies make a nice finishing touch. 309 S. Cloverdale St., 206-587-0190. SODO $
