LE BaskowAmong older locals, West Seattle’s Admiral Benbow (long closed) holds a special place in their hearts (and livers). It wasn’t just the cheap beer and food; how many bars could boast pirate-ship decor with simulated lightning, wind and rain effects? (Answer: One while it was open and none now.) But the Heartland Cafe aims to bring some of that back, according to the West Seattle Blog. Currently, Heartland is under construction in the old Benbow storefront at 4210 Admiral Way. Owner Jay Wergin is soliciting suggestions to augment his planned, midwestern comfort-food menu. And it’s working. As of today, the blog has more than 100 cheesy, defibrillator-grade suggestions for Heartland, including personal favorite: Tater-Tot Casserole.
