Lawsuit Could Unmask Philadelphia Inquirer Restaurant Critic; Case Hinges on Cut of MeatA critic being sued for libel is forced to give testimony on camera, possibly ruining is secret gluttonous identity. Opinion–as is exercised in movie, concert, or restaurant reviews–is clearly protected by the First Amendment, but at odds here is the accuracy of the critic’s review. The restaurant claims he falsely trashed an item that he did not eat. But how could the restaurant know, if the critic was anonymous?What’s a critic to do? Keep audio and video of every meal eaten, to defend himself? Yikes.
