Kells Irish Restaurant and Pub

No surprises here: From the dark wood furnishings to the congenial service and the inch-high head on each barely cooled pint of Guinness, Kells is as straight-up an Irish pub as you’re likely to find in Seattle. The only way it differs from its Emerald Isle prototype is that some of the food is actually good. Exhibit A: the potato farl wrap ($3.50), a kind of potato pancake encasing three cheeses, sausage, tomatoes, and onion. The happy hour prices, available from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, are low enough to lure Euro-bruised Irish folk across the Atlantic, so two people can easily do a pub dinner—two pints of Guinness or Smithwick’s Ale ($4 each) and three filling menu items, such as a farl, a pastie, and a sausage roll ($3.50 each)—for under 20 bucks. 1916 Post Alley, 206-728-1916, www.kellsirish.com.
