Image SourceLiberty Bar likes to tout its large selection of liquors — 25 bourbons, 20 tequilas, 23 scotches, 22 gins, 18 rums, 22 vodkas, etc.But the real charm of this Capitol Hill hot spot is its warm, chic ambience. At peak hours, with the lights dim, a low murmur provides sufficient buzz to fill the silence on first dates, while remaining low enough that you don’t have to scream over the crowd on a night out with friends. On busier nights, it seems like there’s always a single spot open at the bar, surrounding tables, or the cozy black couches. Grab it while you can.Liberty, which opened in 2006, offers a sushi menu that’s enough to satiate a mild appetite, but not much more. For a little bit of a kick, try the sonic boom tuna roll — spicy tuna, snow crab, salmon, avocado, cucumber, spicy sauce, and mayo. If you’re really hungry, go elsewhere. But if you’re looking for a light fare and excellent cocktails, this is your place. Liberty is open every day of the year from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. Happy hour runs from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. every day, with $3 sushi rolls, $3 well spirits, and at least $1 off drinks. For events, there’s a large, inviting room in the back with leather couches.I discovered Liberty in August, and I keep coming back. You will, too.Address: 517 15th Ave. EFollow Voracious on Twitter and Facebook.
