If your goal is burger superiority, it helps to be single-minded in your pursuit.

That’s the takeaway from the match card for the Burger Battle’s Elite 8, featuring five restaurants which focus almost exclusively on burgers. Blue Moon Burgers, Katsu Burger, Lil Woody’s, Lunchbox Laboratory and Red Mill Burgers vanquished their competitors in the tournament round which ended this week; Brave Horse Tavern, Skillet Diner and Jak’s Grill will join them in the quarterfinals.

Although Tom Douglas still has a patty in the fight, Palace Kitchen’s loss to Katsu was among the Sweet 16 surprises. Scott Staples’ Uneeda Burger and Quinn’s were also eliminated by the latest polls, with Quinn’s rival, Lil Woody’s, outlasting 8 Oz. Burger, its fellow Capitol Hill burger specialist.

Voting starts Monday, with polls closing on Thursday at noon. Once voters have winnowed down the field to four, the surviving burger will be served to a panel of Voracious contributors in a blind tasting. And to avoid sparking a countywide burger war, judges will also sample a Zippy’s burger. Check back next Friday for the results, and don’t forget to vote your favorites on to the judging table.
