I can’t remember when was the last time I saw a Waldorf salad on the menu. At the new Dilettante cafe on Broadway, they serve a generous, snappy, creamy sweet helping of chopped apples, celery, pecans, and cranberries held together in a “lavender mayonnaise dressing,” and garnished with blue cheese. You won’t miss the marshmallows. If you need a new side to mix it up at tomorrow’s dinner, a Waldorf salad (basically a chunky slaw) hangs tough with all the meat, fat, and salt on the table. This recipe is simple and easy to customize. And did you know that the night before Thanksgiving is one of the busiest nights in the bar industry? Dilettante has an excellent happy hour from 5-7pm, featuring $3-5 nibbles, $5 chocolate martinis, $3 draft beers (Snow Cap!!) and $3 wells. And I should elaborate that the well INCLUDES: Tanqueray, Jameson, and Johnnie Red. You’re welcome.Dilettante Mocha CafeOpen at 4pm M-F, 12noon on weekends(soon to be open for brunch)538 Broadway Avenue Eastwww.dilettante.com
