Here are a few more places to put on your Saturday wine trail. As I mentioned a few weeks ago, this is the season of wine tastings, when shops, wineries, and suppliers all want to show the good stuff. So if you’re headed to the Pike Place Market:La Buona Tavola (1:00-4:00pm, 1524 Pike Place, between Pike and Pine on the main cobbles) is a worthy market pit stop. They hold a wine tasting most every day, but always on Saturday, it costs $5 to keep freebie-hunting tourists away (or so I say). Then head to Delaurenti (2:00-4:00pm, 1435 First Ave.) and enjoy free cheese along with your free wine. Since I used to work with both gentleman that run the wine department, I can vouch for the wines always being worth your time. And to go with the Italian wine theme, I want to include the Tuesday night tastings at Verve (6:00-8:00pm, 3820 S. Ferdinand St., round the side) in Columbia City. On October 9th they will pour wines from the Piedmont and Alto Adige, my favorite grapey places on earth. Cost for their tastings ranges, $5-10, depending on the fanciness of the wines.
