First Call is a weekly Voracious feature in which our writers walk into a bar and ask the bartender to make us his or her favorite drink. Watering Hole: The Buck, 1506 E. Olive Way, CAPITOL HILLBarkeep: Elio Cibrian–aka “Chuey”The Buck opened less than four months ago. It’s Western-themed and offers 50 cent pizza slices and $2 Stellas. Recession friendly! The men there are pretty hot, too.Chuey, make me a drink! I love ginger margaritas. We use homemade ginger syrup, muddled lemon and limes, and Cointreau–the ginger definitely gives it a twist. The rim is chili sugar. I love it. How many of these do you usually have in a night?[Laughs] Usually one at dinner. Maybe two. I have a pretty low tolerance.Whoa. I’ve never met a bartender who had a low tolerance for alcohol.Yeah… I try to keep up with the big boys, but I usually can’t. Chuey is busy and excuses himself to attend to other customers. We begin gathering our belongings when another bartender calls out to us. “Hey! You ladies should check out the bathroom before you leave. It’ll make a great picture for your post.”We stare at him. Is he a creep? Is this a joke? Is the bathroom actually worth checking out? We decide to heed his advice. We enter the bathroom and turn on the light. One of my friends screams. I jump back. The other patrons laugh. I’m not gonna spoil the fun. But really, you gotta check out the bathroom.
