Ducking into the Can Can pre-dark might not occur to you in the summer, but as the days grow shorter, hitting Left Bank Books followed by a 4:30 p.m. cocktail in the close-to-pitch-black, low-ceilinged basement bar seems the epitome of a Seattle experience. This place is pure early 1990s in design, that overly eclectic look with a hodgepodge of chairs and reclaimed booths pieced together with tons of DIY fabric details. It screams goth teenager’s bedroom. The bar here cuts one of the finest backdrops in the city, with your tender at an oddly subservient level to the clientele. By all means take advantage of the $3 drafts and wells and $5 specialty cocktails, but check out the selection of amaro and brown liquor. The bar snacks on special during happy hour run $3.99 and include mac-n-cheese, artichoke dip (score!), salads, and a meat or cheese plate. They also have snackier snacks, like olives and almonds for $2.Best night to go? Starting next week, the Can Can will feature the teenaged, Johnny Cash channeling, “just a boy and his guitar” sensation Vince Mira every Tuesday night. Show starts at 8:00 p.m. The Can Can, 94 Pike St., happy hour Tue-Sat 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
