Did I not get that email? Now I feel guilty. A Safeway takeout chicken caesar salad I ate this week came affixed with a little green sticker informing me that May was national salad month. Where were the ads, the banners on street lamps, the mayoral proclamations? I feel like I lost a great opportunity to celebrate and enjoy salads, and now salad month is nearly over! Worse, my Safeway salad, though perfectly edible, does seem like an affront to salads everywhere, an insult to our national salad celebration. I feel bad. And I vow not to desecrate the salad ideal until, oh, Monday. Then it’s back to the Safeway, just like any other month.
