Pike Place Market hosts the 2010 Washington State BBQ Championship this Sunday, April 18 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. More than 30 cooks will compete to qualify for nationals, grilling up pork, ribs, chicken, and brisket starting the night prior. Pike Place shoppers can chat with contestants, score barbecue tips, and buy sandwiches. Just don’t bring your car; the Market street will be closed to vehicles all weekend. In other news, Seattle Metropolitan reports that La Bete will open by mid-June in the space formerly occupied by Chez Gaudy on Capitol Hill. The owners, who in the past have worked at Union and Lark, say they plan on serving gussied up interpretations of casual fare like pork belly, oysters, and leg of lamb, plus cocktails.
