Beer for my horses! There will be no last-day bash for the Buckaroo when it’s forced to bid ts longtime Fremont location adieu on September 17. Rather, it’ll be a long farewell: Owner Donna Morey is throwing a week-long “last call party” that begins today and will continue until the last draft is pulled next Friday.”Perhaps there will be beer specials,” says Morey, who recently found out her lease would not be renewed by her landlords, the Christian brothers (who will maintain a “no comment” stance until after September 17, they informed us via voice mail.) “We’re going to have balloons and treats to eat and all kinds of stuff. That’s just to give people from far away a chance not to miss their last drink at the Buck.”But there may be some tissue for those tears in the offing, as Morey says she’s optimistic that the Buckaroo will be able to move into a new space by Thanksgiving, if not sooner.”I know we’re gonna move to a new place, I just don’t know when,” says Morey. “We’re gonna stay as close as we can. Hopefully we’ll be somewhere all safe and sound within a matter of six weeks. That’s a hope, mind you — it’s not a definite thing.”Morey also dismissed rumblings that she was considering selling her business to some Buckaroo regulars who could have struck an 11th-hour deal with the Christians to keep the tavern intact. “I had no alternative. I came to [the Christians] a couple years ago with a couple of fellas who were interested in keeping the Buckaroo the Buckaroo, but the owners had no interest whatsoever,” she says. “The object has been since they bought this building has been to do what the owner before them told them they could do: They’re running me out the door. They want this space for themselves.
