As reported earlier, Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon decided to use his the resources of his office to convince his constituents to vote for the Everett area in an online poll to decide where the next Dick’s Drive-In would be located. Local electeds, including Reardon’s counterpart Dow Constantine, who lives in West Seattle, one of the proposed new sites, remained quiet.Well that got us nowhere. The fast-food proprietor announced today that the north ‘burbs cast 53,810 votes for a new Dick’s.Only 32,180 people clicked the box for South Seattle, which includes the West Side. 30,534 people voted to get a Dick’s in the Bellevue area. “The outpouring of support has been overwhelming and humbling. North received the most votes, and that is where we will now focus our efforts,” Dick’s VP Jim Spady said today on the restaurant’s website. The company hopes to open the doors on a new location in late 2011 or early 2012, though it still needs to decide exactly where to put the joint.There is some hope for those of us who want more options for inducing a late-night heart attack in West Seattle. “We want those who voted South and East to know that we heard their voices also. If the new northern Dick’s is a success, the next two Dick’s Drive-Ins will be built in the South and East regions,” Spady said.But that won’t happen for years if it does at all.Thanks for nothing, Seattle politicos.
