Anchovies & Olives (1550 15th Avenue) will open sometime next week, which is great news for owners Ethan & Angela Stowell. The contractor is working fast and furious to make up for a few delays; the restaurant’s hood got stuck on Snoqualmie pass during the snow storm, only to be rerouted through Portland and…stuck in a flood. I got a sneak peek at the new menu, in which every dish contains seafood, and the wine list which made me do a double take. Created by Angela, the list boasts 100% Italian selections, the majority being white, which I think is beyond cool. “I hope people think that. It 9the wine list) may or may not take of off, but we order white wine every single time we go out to eat. With all the seafood and the Italian influences, I really wanted wines that matched,” said Angela. Greco di Tufo, Inzolia, Gewurztraminer from the Alto Adige…music to the ears of Italian wine freaks, but if you don’t know, don’t be afraid.These wines grew up with such food, and millions of Italians can’t be wrong. Well, OK, except that one time during the war.When I asked her if she thought she might hear about it from local winemakers, she added, “I had to reconcile between wanting to support what’s local and having this passion for Italian wines. I think that at Union we definitely defer to Northwest wines, and Anchovies & Olives will be our place to explore Italy.”  Between all of the southern Italian whites on the menu and the variety of bright flavors of A&O’s crudo plates, there will be hours of exploration indeed.
