After seeing this post on MyBallard.com, I headed to Pauline’s on Market Street to grab an assortment of cookies. I’ve had owner Stephanie Hardgrave’s cookies a few times, and I’m a sucker for a solid chocolate-vanilla swirl. The shop took over the not-quite street side space at the mouth of the alley in the middle of the 2300 block of Market. But oddly, Pauline’s doesn’t open until noon on Wednesdays. Not to cross the line into my other profession, but hours matter. One random late opening on one random day, to a customer, can label you as “never open” or having “weird hours.” Unfair? Yes, a little. But consistency is king; customers shouldn’t have to remember a special schedule for a bakery. Yoga class, yes. Bakery, no.So to warn you: Pauline’s is only open Tue-Wed noon to 4:00pm, Thu-Sat 9:00am to 4:00pm, and Sun 9:00am to 3:00pm. Arrrgh…I wanted that stollen in the window.
