A weekly blog feature in which our writers walk into a bar

A weekly blog feature in which our writers walk into a bar and ask the bartender to make us his or her favorite drink. Locale: Cactus, 4220 E. Madison, 324-4124. www.cactusrestaurants.com. MADISON PARKBartender: Marcella DeIeso Serving Seattleites since: 1999. The incredibly sweet DeIeso is happy to play along with the rules and chat about everything from tequila to the cat she rescued to whom I should hit on at the bar. What are we drinking here, Marcella? This is a Partida Agave Margarita. It’s a lot healthier than the typical caloric margarita, which is why I like it so much. We use freshly squeezed lemon and lime juice. Agave is a pure organic nectar that sweetens the drink without any of that artificial flavoring. It’s very classic and refreshing.I can honestly say it’s the best margarita I’ve ever had–and believe me, I’ve had a lot of margaritas. Do you usually go for one or a couple of these? [Laughs.] I definitely drink more than one. But I’m not throwing them back either… let’s just say I like my happy hour to be happy. I hear ya. By the way, can I take your photo?Oh my god. I’m not wearing any makeup today. I took the cat in this morning to get spayed. Whats the cat’s name? How long have you had him/her?Her name is Vanessa. I actually found her in a bar. One of the drunk regulars had left his car there the night before with a kitten inside. The windows were rolled up and it was like, 90 degrees out. I got her out of there because I was worried she’d die. And I immediately fell in love with her. The guy was pretty mad when he came back for the car and took her with him. I gave him my phone number in case he changed his mind about having a cat. He called me a month later. Lucky kitty! Yeah, she’s fat and happy now. Speaking of lucky, I heard you guys have a great singles scene here. I think this area in general attracts a large crowd because it’s right by the water. Things really start to pick up when the weather gets warmer. Really? I should come back here sometime soon and snag myself a guy. You know, we actually have two really cute bartenders that work at night. Are they straight? Yes.Hmmm… maybe we should act like we never did this First Call. I’ll come back and use my assignment as a ploy to talk to one of them tonight. You should get their phone numbers, too, you know, since they’re sources and you might need to get in touch again. Excellent! I like your thinking, Marcella. And your margaritas.
