A Republican Representative () and a Democratic Senator (Tim Sheldon) are heading an effort in this session of the legislature that I’m calling Operation: First Nail in Coffin. They will try to build support for their plan to begin privatizing Washington State liquor stores, a few dozen at a time. Sheldon’s been a dog with this bone for years. So don’t get too excited about kicking the state out of the booze biz. We’re talking about state employees, and systematically ridding an entire union piece by piece will not be received kindly by a Democratic governor.
