A few places around town are quietly loving Strega right now. Oddfellows‘ bar manager, Anna, has been making a day-glo Strega daiquiri: Strega with lime juice, a splash of maraschino cherry liqueur and simple syrup, served in an actual daiquiri glass. Strega and lime really take each other to another level. This cocktail is personality plus; so you should be on board with herbal liqueurs before trying it. At Tilikum Place, lead bartender Kate makes a light and refreshing drink with the strong personalities of gin and Strega (as an accent), but she was still tweaking the recipe when I tried it. She works on Fridays, by the way, and tomorrow is supposed to be very warm…

For Tuesday’s Seattle food writers event at the Palace Ballroom, I made one of my favorite concoctions with Strega, a version of a French 75, subbing lime for lemon and adding Strega. Shake 1 1/2 ounces gin, a little simple syrup, one ounce of lime juice and a half ounce or more of Strega with ice and strain into a cocktail glass. Top with a generous float of sparkling wine, at least two ounces. If you’ve seen or sipped anything with this springiest of spirits, share with the class!
