Whalebones + Feral Children

Sunday, April 13

James Bertram isn’t the only one benefiting from Amy Blaschke’s brief return home—local psych rockers Whalebones get their keyboardist/vocalist back for at least one more show. It’s a good thing too, as the title track on their latest EP offering, Morning Man would be tough to execute without her high, lonesome vocals that offset Justin Deary’s deeper yarls perfectly, like the white curly icing on the top of a Ding-Dong. They’re joined by visceral manic-pop rockers Feral Children, who’ve hopefully healed from the various cuts and bruises incurred during their thrashing, bloody SXSW appearances; as well as replaced the drum skins that were entirely destroyed after percussion pounder/wailer Jeff Keenan tore into them during their last set, puncturing mercilessly with both sticks and fists. Any repairs and newly healed wounds however, will likely be ripped open again tonight. With Chris and Koza. Cha Cha Lounge, 1013 E. Pike St., 322-0703. 9 p.m. Free. AJA PECKNOLD
