Richard Strauss was the bad boy of the European avant-garde when in 1911 he composed something really shocking: Der Rosenkavalier, a silvered, perfumed, bittersweet romantic comedy set in 18th- century Vienna, full of sumptuous waltzes and a three-soprano finale to die for. We don’t know about stonewashed jeans, but CSS are doing everything else right. With booty-shaking bass lines, rock-star confidence, and song titles like “Music Is My Hot, Hot Sex,” Sub Pop’s first São Paulo find is perfectly matched with party-rocking DJ and producer Diplo tonight.
