The Beach Boys have been experiencing a kind of resurgence by becoming a reference point for today’s most buzzed about indie acts, Grizzly Bear being the most obvious example. Their super-tight harmonies and layered instrumentals are a throwback to Pet Sounds. But none of the polish and sparkle of the Beach Boys songs would have been possible without producer, vocalist, and instrumentalist Brian Wilson. It’s a shame that the Beach Boys continue to tour with only two original memberssinger Mike Love and guitarist Bruce Johnstonbecause it’s not the same band that influenced Veckatimest. Seeing the band live now would evoke only feelings of nostalgia, instead of true appreciation and respect. PAIGE RICHMOND
