Tacoma Screw’d

Noelle Walker often has trouble getting galleries to show her artwork because of its explicit focus on transsexuality. In her newest collection, “Tacoma Screw’d” (through Aug. 31), the non-op transsexual artist reflects on her experience going from man to woman, and how others perceive her body. “Screw’d” consists of cartoonish, gender-ambiguous figures that purse their pouty lips and gaze seductively at you. Walker intentionally uses materials that smudge—spray paint, pencil, and chalk on cardboard. So, too, the labels smudge and blur, resisting easy gender categorization. Also, the art itself alters over time, much like the human body. Babeland, 707 E. Pike St., 328-2914, www.babeland.com. Free. 11 a.m.–10 p.m. ERIKA HOBART
