Francophiles mightve picked up a pair of albums in 2001 that transmitted a certain frissonStereolabs fairly memorable Sound-Dust, and Stereo Totals Musique Automatique, arguably their best-known release. Both bands have strong female leads to thank for their charm: Laetitia Sadier in the former, and drummer Françoise Cactus in the latter, with her keyboardist bandmate (though they share vocal and guitar duties), Brezel Göring. The less serious band of the twowhether because their songs, like Lamour à 3, are light and playful or because they dont give a shit about typical promotionStereo Total have found a comfortable home on indie labels like their current Kill Rock Stars. Their new KRS release, Paris-Berlin, is again a lo-fi, four-track-recorded, endearingly quirky mess of electro-romantic love songs to the past, present, and each other.
